Student charged in Va. mall shootings; 2 wounded

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) - An 18-year-old college student was charged Friday with shooting and wounding two women at a mall branch of a southwest Virginia community college before he was subdued, the city's police chief said. Neil Allan MacInnis, of Christiansburg, faces two counts each of malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony stemming from the shooting at the satellite campus of New River Community College at New River Valley Mall, Christiansburg Police Chief Mark Sisson said Friday night. Police: Gunman planned for hostage situation

FOX 5 has confirmed the name of the man, who police say, held Gwinnett County firefighters hostage for hours on Wednesday. Police say 55-year-old Lauren Brown was the gunman, and apparently had been planning the incident for weeks. Brown lived alone, and apparently inherited the home and other debt last year. The home went into foreclosure soon after, according to FOX 5's Chris Shaw. Police said on Wednesday he was apparently suffering financial difficulties and was demanding to have his power and other utilities turned restored. ATLANTA -Former Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Beverly Hall arrived at the Fulton County Jail on Tuesday night to surrender to authorities on charges related to the cheating scandal. Hall and 34 other educators were indicted on Friday, accused of cheating, conspiring to cheat, or concealing cheating on the 2009 CRCT test.
