APS Names Interim Superintendent
Erroll B. Davis Jr. will take over the position on July 1, one day after he retires from the university position he held for more than five years.
Davis inherits a school district thats currently involved in a cheating investigation and placed on probation by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The district has been ordered by SACS to address six issues by Sept. 30 including regaining the confidence of parents and using a professional mediator to work through the divisiveness that has split the school board.
Davis replaces Beverly Hall who announced last year she would step down at the end of her contract.
We are pleased that a person of Mr. Davis experience and reputation has graciously agreed to take the APS helm on an interim basis during this time of challenge for both the Board and the district, Board Chair Khaatim Sherrer El wrote in a statement. The Board has the utmost faith in Mr. Davis ability to help us stay on course to resolving the issues currently impacting the Board and the district.
Davis will remain on the job until a replacement for Hall is named. He has a long career in education, including time as a member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents and a former chairman of the board of trustees of Carnegie Mellon University.
