Babysitter Says She Was Robbed In Craigslist Scam
“I think she’s looking for people who need babysitting jobs, dropping her kids off and then giving a whole sob story,” Turman told Napier Viteri. According to the police report, Turman said Gilmore dropped off her five kids without having met Turman and said she would be back later that evening to pay her. Turman said Gilmore returned around midnight and told her she didn’t have the money.
“Then, she basically told me she’d been living out of her car with all of her five kids,” Turman said.
She agreed to let Gilmore and her kids stay the weekend but said Gilmore left Sunday and took her computer, jewelry, clothing and her daughter’s clothing. Turman said she learned Gilmore makes a living cleaning homes using ads on Craigslist.
“One of her daughter’s actually mentioned to me that they get a lot of nice things when they clean people’s houses,” Turman said. Lakisha Gilmore agreed to a phone interview and denied stealing from Turman. She said she found Turman while looking for a nanny online and claims Turman was the one who asked her for help paying her gas bill.
“I was a victim of Craigslist. I was used. I gave more money than I should have,” Gilmore said.
Duluth police said the investigation is active and charges are possible, depending on the outcome.
