Metro Atlanta Leaders Ask For More Mass Transit

Local governments in metro Atlanta want a big, expensive expansion to mass transit.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that local leaders had until the end of last month to submit wish lists for projects to be considered for a regional sales tax that voters will see on the ballot next year. Many asked for trains and buses.

The Atlanta Regional Commission handed over a list of requests to the state transportation planning director for review. A regional group is set to choose the final projects over the summer.

The list submitted Friday isn’t final. It will have to undergo state scrutiny and regional debate and then will be cut to an affordable size.

Voters will decide whether they want a 1-cent sales tax for 10 years to pay for the projects.
