Merchandise Worth More Than $20K Stolen From Apple Store

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- More than $20,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from an Apple Computer store, Peachtree City police said.Thieves stole the items from the PeachMac store at The Avenues Shopping Center in Peachtree City around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Peachtree City police representative Michelle Ward said in a news release. Ward said thieves crashed through the front door and stole numerous computers and computer parts. Surveillance video showed three men in the store. Woman Accused Of Kidnapping, Killing Georgia Mother

ATLANTA -- A Macon woman accused of abducting and killing a 38-year-old mother in an apparently random carjacking confessed to the shooting and led police to the woman's body, an investigator said Monday. Alexandria Renee Scott, 19, and Justin Terrell Grable, 21, were charged Sunday with felony murder in the death of Kimberly McKenzie. Escaped Inmate Was Working For Public Works Dept.

ATLANTA -- A city of Atlanta Public Works employee will soon be trading his work uniform for a jail suit.Atlanta police arrested Claude Brooks on charges of public urination last Friday. When police ran Brooks’ fingerprints, they matched those of a man already in the database under the name of Edward Nathan. Investigators: Ga. Man Killed Ex-Wife, Then Died

MONROE, Ga. -- Investigators in Walton and Greene counties said they believe a Loganville man killed his ex-wife, then died at a relative's home. Walton County authorities said 52-year-old Robert Cook was staying with his ex-wife, 60-year-old Judy Clay, when Cook strangled her with an electrical cord. Greene County sheriff's deputies found Cook's remains Jan. 9 and asked Walton County deputies to notify his ex-wife. Authorities said that when deputies arrived at Clay's Walton County home, they found her body inside. Walton County Capt. Woman Rescued From Under MARTA Train

ATLANTA -- A woman hit by a MARTA train Tuesday morning has been rescued, Atlanta firefighters said. The woman entered the trackway at the Five Points station in downtown Atlanta around 8 a.m., MARTA spokeswoman Cara Hodgson said. An Atlanta Fire representative said she fell in between the tracks. Atlanta firefighters said the victim was trapped under a northbound train. Store Clerk Shot, Killed During Overnight Robbery

ATLANTA -- A convenience store clerk was shot and killed during a morning robbery in southeast Atlanta, police said. Police surrounded the Glenwood Food Mart on Glenwood Avenue talking to at least two witnesses, Channel 2’s Darryn Moore reported. A robber walked into the store just after 3 a.m. and pulled a gun, police said. ATLANTA -- Atlanta police say a group of thieves in disguise are hitting homes, and have even struck a church twice. COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Police say a Pickens County woman accused of asking someone to kill her husband is under arrest and will be brought to Columbus to face charges. Columbus police Lt. Ronald Hastings said Monday that 40-year-old Johnnie Melissa Burmeister faces a felony charge of criminal solicitation to commit murder. Ga. Deputy Accused Of Stealing Inmate’s ID

ALBANY, Ga. -- Authorities have accused a south Georgia sheriff's deputy of stealing the identity of an inmate. Deputy Charles Tharpe was arrested Tuesday and charged with computer theft. Investigators said Tharpe, an 11-year veteran, used jail computers to steal an inmate's social security number and personal information, then used the information to open accounts for cash. Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul said there could be more people involved in the crime and there may be more victims.
