Perdue Declares State Of Emergency In Ga.

ATLANTA -- Gov. Sonny Perdue has declared a state of emergency in Georgia as the state braces for a blast of winter weather expected to dump snow and coat roadways with ice. As his last act as governor before Gov.-elect Nathan Deal is inaugurated Monday morning, Perdue issued the executive order Sunday night hours before the storm was supposed to hit. Footprints In Snow Lead Dalton Police To Suspects

DALTON, Ga. -- The snow blanketing much of north Georgia helped police catch a pair of burglary suspects. Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier tells WSB radio that officers responded to a burglar alarm going off at a liquor store around 4 a.m. Monday. The glass in the front door had been smashed in. Frazier said snow had been falling for about four hours before the burglary. Officers found fresh footprints in the snow and followed them to the door of a nearby apartment. Ice Cripples Metro Roads, Highways Are ‘Impassable’

ATLANTA -- Layers of ice and snow made some metro Atlanta roads and highways virtually impossible to drive for a second day as Georgia Department of Transportation crews worked quickly to alleviate the number of stranded vehicles. GDOT has 45 trucks on the road in the metro area and said road crews are working 12 hour shifts to improve or at least maintain the roadways. CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County Police searched a south Metro hotel for suspects after a double shooting on an interstate ramp, but came up empty handed early Thursday. ATLANTA -- An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal stabbing that happened 15 minutes into the new year at the Five Points MARTA station, a MARTA spokesman confirmed.
