Law firm of BP claims czar paid $3.3M so far

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — The law firm of Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of BP’s $20 billion compensation fund for Gulf oil spill victims, has so far been paid about $3.35 million from BP PLC. The Gulf Coast Claims Facility, which was set up to compensate fishermen, business owners and other Gulf Coast victims of the April 20 BP well blowout, said Thursday that BP agreed to pay Feinberg’s firm $850,000 a month starting in mid-June. ATLANTA -- Police say a woman has been found shot to death in an Atlanta home and a man seen leaving the house has been arrested following a chase. Woman dies in fiery Talbot County car wreck

A Woodbury, Georgia woman was killed over the weekend in a single-vehicle accident on a rural Talbot County roadway. According to the coroner, 30-year-old Chirmane Johnson was driving on Rising Sun Road around midnight Saturday. When she attempted to make a turn, she allegedly lost control of the car. The coroner says the car went through the woods and eventually hit a tree. The car burst into flames and the coroner says the woman was burned beyond recognition. ATLANTA -- The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld a Gwinnett County court’s guilty verdict and life prison sentence given to Houston Wesley Drake for the murder of his 11-month-old baby boy, Devon McCoy.According to the evidence, Drake had custody of his infant son, and the two lived with Drake’s girlfriend, Claire Garceau, Georgia Supreme Court spokeswoman Jane Hansen said in a news release. SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah-Chatham police say they're searching for three suspects in the shooting death of a Savannah College of Art and Design student. Police say 20-year-old Sean Giroir died Thursday night at Memorial University Medical Center from wounds he suffered in the Thursday afternoon shooting. ATHENS, Ga. -- A prosecutor has dismissed assault charges against a driver accused of using his car to nudge a man and his 3-year-old son from a parking space.
