Sex Offender Found In Tree House

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. -- Officials with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested a sex offender after finding him in a tree house. Authorities said Tuesday that they arrested Bobby Hawkins on Saturday after several anonymous tips were phoned in to investigators. Hawkins was wanted on warrants on charges of failure to register as a sex offender, aggravated assault, giving a false name and a probation violation. Police said Hawkins was discovered by deputies in a tree house behind an abandoned property on Railroad Street near Old Chattanooga Road in Rocky Face. Georgia Inmate Captured After Escape

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- A prisoner who escaped from a work crew in Moultrie has been captured. Authorities said 33-year-old Timothy Metrakos escaped Monday afternoon while working near Route 37. Officers with a police dog found him three-and-a-half hours later. Metrakos is incarcerated at the Colquitt County Correctional Institute, which accepts minimum- and medium-security inmates. Firefighter Accused Of Showing Video Of Crash Victim Around Town

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. -- A local family said they are reeling after finding out that a local firefighter is accused of videotaping their daughter’s body at the scene of an accident and then showing it around town. Dayna Kempson-Schacht, 23, was killed when her car crashed into trees in Spalding County in July. 27 Injured In Church Hayride Crash

DOUGLAS, Ga. -- Two people were in serious condition after a car struck a trailer carrying a church group on a hayride in Douglas, injuring 27 people. Pastor Hilton Martin told the Waycross Journal-Herald that the accident happened Friday night when a car hit a trailer being pulled slowly along Route 64. DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Officials with FBI Atlanta said a Loomis employee was arrested and charged in connection with a robbery on a Loomis armored truck at DeKalb Medical Center. Authorities said armed men confronted the couriers who were operating a Loomis armored car at DeKalb Medical Center at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. Police said one of the men fled the area in a U-Haul moving truck and was apprehended by police a short distance away. Man Steals Car With Sleeping Baby Inside

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County officials arrested a man Thursday who they said stole a car with a sleeping baby inside. The baby has since been found safe. Police said the incident began when a mother, Jetta Sellers, stopped to get gas at a BP station on Jonesboro Road on Thursday morning. Officials said the woman’s 8-month-old son, Jayden, was asleep in the backseat when she went inside to pay for the gas. ATLANTA -- Two men stole a full cash register from an Atlanta supermarket on Thursday, according to the Atlanta Police Department. DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- DeKalb County police said they are looking at hotel surveillance video after a man was shot at the Doubletree Hotel on North Druid Hills Road on Wednesday.
